From Munich to Mainstreet

Why is a local TV station hosting Oktoberfest, you ask?

Well... As storytellers, we believe Oktoberfest is a beautiful love story of tradition, culture, and community — and what better way to celebrate that than by bringing it to life right here in our town.

On October 12, 1810, Crown Prince Ludwig, who would later become King Ludwig I, married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The royal wedding was a grand affair, and the citizens of Munich were invited to participate in the festivities.

The celebrations were held on the fields in front of the city gates, which were later named Theresienwiese (Theresa's Fields) in honor of the bride. To mark the end of the official wedding festivities, a horse race was held on October 17, 1810.

The citizens enjoyed the celebrations so much that they suggested repeating the horse race and other festivities the following year. This suggestion led to the creation of the annual Oktoberfest. Over 200 years later, we’re still raising our steins in the spirit of community, tradition, and good cheer — from Bavaria to Los Gatos!
